Overview
Jaguar introduced the XF, a luxury midsize sedan offering everything that is unique about Jaguar - a vented grille, attractive features and distinct looks - in 2009. Now in its third year, the XF is available in base XF, XF Premium, XF Super Charged and the high performance XFR trims. The Jaguar XF, in the highly competitive market, takes on the likes of Audi A6, Cadillac STS, BMW 5-Series, Mercedes E-Class and Lexus GS.
Power and performance
The XF comes with a choice of three outstanding engines. The base XF comes with a 4.2-liter V8 engine good for 300 hp and 310 lb-ft of torque. The XF Premium is motivated by a 5.0-liter V8 rated at 385 hp and 380 lb-ft of torque. The XF Supercharged is powered by a 470 hp supercharged 5.0 liter V8 engine. The high performance XFR has a supercharged 5.0-liter V8 that pumps out 510 hp and 461 lb-ft of torque. All these engines are coupled to the rear wheels through a six-speed automatic transmission with a sport mode and manual-shift paddles.
The EPA estimated fuel economy estimates for the 4.2-liter V8 stand at 16 mpg city and 25 mpg highway. The 5.0-liter V8 engine delivers 16/23 and the 5.0-liter V8 supercharged engine is rated at 15/21 mpg city/highway.
Body and styling
The base XF features 18-inch wheels, a sunroof, automatic headlights, rear parking sensors, automatic dual-zone climate control, leather upholstery, keyless ignition, and heated 10-way power front seats with driver memory functions. Bluetooth, a navigation system, voice-activated controls and a nine-speaker stereo with a six-CD changer, an auxiliary audio jack, and an iPod interface and satellite radio are also standard. A front parking sensors, a rearview camera and a blind-spot warning system can be installed through the Vision package. A heated steering wheel and a power rear window shade are standalone options.
The XF Premium gets 19-inch wheels, bi-xenon auto-leveling headlamps, a more powerful V8 engine, bigger brakes, heated and cooled front seats, leather-trimmed dash and door trim, wood trim choices and keyless ignition and entry. It includes the Vision package. The Portfolio package includes 20-inch wheels, 16-way driver and 12-way passenger power seats, contrasting stitching, ebony wood trim, a heated steering wheel and a power rear window shade.
A Bowers & Wilkins surround-sound system with 14 speakers and HD radio is optional on the XF and XF Premium. The XF Premium can also be fitted with an adaptive cruise control.
The Jaguar XFR has all of the above optional equipment and adds a supercharged engine, unique 20-inch wheels, an adaptive suspension, bigger brakes, a specialized limited-slip rear differential, additional seating adjustments and unique interior trim.
Safety Features
Airbags for driver and passenger, side curtain airbags, ABS, front seat whiplash reduction system, front seat belt pretensioners, Emergency Brake Assist, Tire Pressure Monitoring System are among the standard safety features. A rearview camera and a blind-spot warning system are optional on the base XF, standard on the XF Premium and XFR.
