2012 Jaguar XK-Series Review

Overview

Jaguar has added some new exterior and interior features to the 2012 XK-Series which distinguish it from other Jaguar models. The 2012 Jaguar XK-Series, comprising a lineup of coupes and convertibles, are equipped with strong engines, excellent comfort and performance features. They are even priced less when compared to its competitors. The 2012 Jaguar XK is available in three models ? XK, XKR and XKR-S. The first two models are available in coupe and soft-top convertible body styles and the high-performance XKR-S comes in coupe model only.

Power and performance

A 5.0-liter V8 rated at 385 hp and 380 pound-feet of torque provides power to the XK. Rear-wheel drive and a six-speed automatic transmission are standard. The EPA-estimated fuel economy is 16/24 city/highway mpg and the convertible delivers 16/22. The Jaguar XKR?s supercharged 5.0-liter V8 pumps out 510 hp and 461 lb-ft of torque yields 22 mpg on highways. The top of the lineup Jaguar XKR-S coupe is packed with a more powerful version of the supercharged 5.0-liter engine which churns out the power of 550 horses and 502 lb-ft of torque. The fuel economy figures are similar to XKR.

Body and styling

The dramatic front and rear styling lends the 2012 Jaguar XK a dynamic new appearance. The XK and XKR have new front and rear fascias, new headlamps and LED running lights. The revised interior increases the luxury feel of the cabin. Performance seats are standard on XKR-S and optional on XKR. The Jaguar XK rolls on 19-inch wheels with leather upholstery and interior trim, automatic dual-zone climate control, a touch screen interface, a navigation system, Bluetooth, a Bowers & Wilkins sound system, a six-CD changer, an iPod/USB audio interface and satellite radio. The convertible gets a power-operated roof and tonneau cover. The XKR features upgraded brakes, upgraded exhaust, adaptive headlights and HD radio. The XKR-S features three exclusive seat designs with an embossed "R-S" logo, contrast stitching, unique Carbon Leather accents and contrast micro-piping in Red, Ivory or Reims Blue.

Safety Features

All 2012 Jaguar XK models are engineered for safety. Emergency Brake Assist, Electronic Brake-force Distribution, Anti-lock brakes (ABS), traction control (through engine and brake intervention) and Dynamic Stability Control are standard. The new Understeer Control Logic mitigates understeer by intervening through the engine management and braking systems to help restore grip at the front wheels.
